Export Shareable Test Cases to Other QMetry Instance

You can export QMetry test cases from one Jira instance to other Jira instance. This document describes how to export shareable test cases to other QMetry Test Management for Jira instances. To read about independent test case export to other QMetry instances, refer to Export Test Cases to Other QMetry Instance.

Note

  • The independent normal test case that is using shared test cases will be imported as normal test cases in the destination project.

  • The shareable test case will be imported as shareable test case in the destination project.

Pre-requisites

  • QMetry for Jira add-on should be installed on both source project instance and target project instances.

  • QMetry for Jira feature (Project Settings > QMetry Project Settings) should be enabled for both source project instance and target project instance.

  • If the Permissions feature is enabled for the target project instance, the user must have the Import permission (Project Settings > QMetry Permissions) for the project on the other QMetry for Jira instance.

Steps to export shareable test cases to other instance

Perform the following steps to export shareable test cases to other instance:

Source Project Instance

  1. Go to Test Management and select Test Case.

  2. On the Test Case List View, click more icon and select Show Shareable Test Cases option. The screen displays shareable test cases.

  3. Select shareable test cases that you want to export to the project in other QMetry for the Jira instance. You can also narrow down the test case search by applying filters.

    To select all test cases on the page, select the check box in the column header. To select all test cases across the pages, select the Select All Across Pages check box.

    The options for Bulk Operation are visible on the screen after selecting the test case(s).

  4. Click the Export drop-down list and select Export to Other Instance.

    The Export to Other QMetry Instance dialog appears.

    There are three steps:

    A. Authentication

    B. Provide Additional Options to import test cases

    C. Select Destination Project in the target QMetry for Jira instance

    Note

    Only users who are authenticated in target instance can perform this operation.

    Enter the following authentication details. You can proceed once the details are validated. Then click Next.

    a. Email: Enter Email ID of the user who has import rights of in the target project in other QMetry Instance.

    b. Base URL: Enter URL of the other QMetry for Jira instance in which the test cases are being imported.

    c. API Token: Enter API Token. Refer to https://confluence.atlassian.com/cloud/api-tokens-938839638.html to learn how to generate API tokens.

    B. Additional Options : Select the options that you would like to copy from test cases during export.

    Export with Comments: Select the checkbox to export Comments along with the other details of test cases.

    Test Case Versions: Select either of the following options to indicate whether the latest version or all versions of the test cases are to be exported from the source project.

    • Export All Version(s)

    C. Destination Project: The Select target Project drop-down list displays a list of projects that exist on the target QMetry instance. Select the project to which the test cases will be exported. Then click Start Export.

Perform the following steps while exporting test cases with shareable test cases to a different instance.

1. Export the test case. The shared steps of the test case will be exported as normal steps, and their linkage with shareable test cases will be removed.

2. Export the shareable test cases separately to the destination project, and then re-link them to the main test cases.

Destination Project Instance

The test cases are imported into the Jira instance as per the configuration done in Step 3 above.

The shareable test cases are imported as shareable test cases in the destination project instance.
