Create a Sub-Task on List View Execution Screen

In addition to linking sub-tasks and sub-defects, users can also create sub-tasks or sub-defects directly from the test execution screen at the test case or step level, enhancing efficiency and streamlining the workflow.

For example, the product team wants to use sub-tasks or sub-defects to track internal development, testing, and related tasks on stories or bugs logged from the Execution screen. It helps the team improve traceability, work distribution, and progress monitoring.

Prerequisite:

  • The Sub-task issue type should have been added to the Issue Type Scheme of the project.

  • The Sub-task issue type should be enabled in QMetry Project Settings > Issue Type > Bug.

Perform the following steps to create a sub-task:

  1. Click on the Bug count for the test case.

    The Assign Bug screen opens.

  2. Click the Create button and select the Create Sub-Task option.

    The Create Sub-Task screen opens.

  3. Enter the following fields:

    • Parent Issue: Select the parent issue from the drop-down list, as the sub-tasks and sub-defects are always associated with a parent issue type/key and can not be created independently, like other issue types. The sub-tasks are linked to the selected story and displayed in the Subtasks section on that story detail page in Jira.

    • -Task Issue Type: Select the sub-task issue type from the drop-down list.

      Note

The Sub-Task Issue Type is listed only if the type is enabled from the QMetry Project Settings > Issue Type > Bug screen.

Once you select the Sub-Task, the fields show up on the screen.

  4. Enter the details in the fields and click Create.

The sub-task is created in the Bug tab on the execution screen.
